MLV: Multi-Level Views
A Thousand Pictures, Each Worth a Thousand Words

Is there one “correct” view of your information? Perhaps, if you have only one question to answer. more likely however, you have many questions that you would like to answer. You likely also have many different users who might all be asking different sets of questions. Traditional approaches to information visualization work within the single view paradigm, attempting to provide the one “correct” view of your information that can answer all questions. Some other approaches to information visualization use “linked” views which propagate selections across views in different windows. These linked views help integrate multiple views to an extent, but they still incur significant cognitive overhead through the spatial discontinuities between views, and this overhead quickly overwhelms our ability to comprehend the collection of views. Visualytics' patent pending Multi-Level Viewing technology lets you move beyond simple linking of views, it visually integrates the multiple views into a single composite view with no spatial discontinuities between views. This allows the user to easily understand the relations between views.

mlv-gui.pngMLV also provides sophisticated graphical user interface tools that lets you interactively manage your views.  This easy-to-use interface allows views to be created or deleted on the fly.  The user can easily change the ordering of the views,  group them into hierarchies, toggle their visibility, or modify their level of transparency.  MLV serves as the foundation for most of our custom visualization consulting projects.  It allows the developer to rapidly prototype suites of views for their data, and the built in view-management technology handles all of the synchronization and user interface management complexities.
